Bisbee Brown

About the Artist2010 Bisbee Brown show

Bisbee Brown has worked in collage and assemblage for over twenty-five years. Recently she has added work in mosaic. Her art is informed by honesty, irreverent humor and an unerring eye.

She is best known for her exuberant found-paper collaged boxes and her unique mementi mori assemblages.

Bisbee Brown's mementi mori are in the spirit of Mexican Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) folk art.

The mementi mori present not-quite-skeletal bone-white death's-head figures unselfconsciously engaged in all the activities of life. As reminders of our mortality, they are both deeply disturbing and hilarious.

Almost all the works of art shown here are in private collections. This archive of Bisbee Brown's art forms an online museum, offered for inspiration and for pleasure.
